Kwanzaa coloring pages FAQ
What is Kwanzaa?
Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration of African American and Pan-African culture, family and community, created by Dr. Maulana Karenga in 1966. It runs from December 26 to January 1 and ends with a feast called the Karamu on December 31.
How do I color the kinara candles?
The kinara holds seven candles: three red on the left, a black candle in the center and three green on the right. Black stands for the people, red for their struggle and green for the future and hope. A candle is lit each night, starting with the black one.
What are the seven principles of Kwanzaa?
The Nguzo Saba, one for each day: Umoja (unity), Kujichagulia (self-determination), Ujima (collective work and responsibility), Ujamaa (cooperative economics), Nia (purpose), Kuumba (creativity) and Imani (faith).
What are the other Kwanzaa symbols?
The mkeka (straw mat), the kikombe cha umoja (unity cup), the muhindi (ears of corn, one for each child), mazao (crops and fruit) and zawadi (gifts). Several of them appear on these pages.
Are they free?
Yes. Every page is a free A4 and US Letter PDF with no signup.
