Hanukkah coloring pages FAQ
What is Hanukkah?
Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, lasts eight nights. It remembers the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem and the story of a small jar of oil that burned for eight days.
Why does the menorah have nine candles?
A Hanukkah menorah, or hanukkiah, holds eight candles, one for each night, plus the shamash, the helper candle used to light the others. The shamash usually stands higher or apart from the rest.
Why are latkes and doughnuts eaten at Hanukkah?
Foods fried in oil, such as potato latkes and jelly doughnuts (sufganiyot), recall the miracle of the oil.
What are the letters on a dreidel?
A dreidel has four Hebrew letters, nun, gimel, hei and shin, standing for “a great miracle happened there”. In Israel the last letter is pei, for “here”.
Are they free?
Yes. Every page is a free A4 and US Letter PDF with no signup.
